“I wonder, is contamination in water good or bad. Contamination in water is a very bad thing to the world because it can kill marine life or even affect the water way. If people don’t want to be affected they can stop polluting the land. On behalf of polluting, sea creatures can die and it can also break the food chain. Lots of things can start contaminated water like pesticides and oil spills.

Wasted cattle can is another thing that can contaminate water because the urine of the cattle goes into the drain. People can also die because contaminated water can be vaporized and it can make acid rain. This also causes extinction, because when we litter the water can go to the ocean.

Also another thing that causes contamination is rinsed insecticide, because when we spray it on our fruits and veggies to keep them clean and to keep maggots and fruit flies away the rain can wash it off and it can go in the drain and we will be drinking dirty water that can poison us. Sea creatures like sharks, whales and other types of fish can perish. If people can keep this up there can be an unknown virus and there can be very bad diseases.

Would we want to live in such a crisis?

Q1- What have researchers long suspected about hippo ancestry ?  

A1- because hippos have evolved from a family of  plant eating and semi-aquatic mammals called the anthracotheres  

Q2: Why could they not confirm it?

A2-the scientists could not confirm it because these animals have roamed the earth millions of years ago

Q3-what led Lihoreau and his team to search for hippo fossils?

A3- Lihoreau and his team found fossil jaw that made them curious where this came from. They investigated more about the fossil they found.

The fossil was believed to be related to modern day hippo. The fossil found millions of years ago was in close relationship to the modern animals like lions, tigers, zebra, jaguar and wolf.

How much do the weigh ? modern hippos weigh 4,000 pounds and ancient ones weigh 220 pounds.

On Saturday 14 march, in Eden park as I watch India vs Zimbabwe , The big T.V screen says “ if you have brought food, finish it because there has been an infestation of the Queensland fruit fly”. I was worried because I had so much food.

What will be the effects to the resources of New Zealand? the fruit fly will contaminate our food and make the economy hungry.

The bio-security was not tight so 12 different species of terrible fruit flies have crossed the border.

These pesky creatures can be conquered by sprays called insecticide and pesticide.

a chromebook has helped me lots of times and it gives me a lot of information because I research on it. It also helps me with engaging and collaborating with my classmates.

What new did you experience in your working with the chromebook ?

Nikau

Nikau trees

Lots of palm trees are mainly grown in warm tropical places. But the native Nikau tree of New Zealand is mostly grown in the South. In the past , the Maori people have eaten the bulb shaped heart of the Nikau tree. Even the  great Captain Cook and his crew of the Endeavour loved the sweet and rich food from the Nikau tree. People who were collecting and cutting this tree has caused chaos because they cut too many for their own needings, and so on this treat became expensive and has now become a thing that is known as a Millionaire salad. The Maori have used the fronds of the tree for house roofs. They also used the long leaf line for knitting kete and other types of baskets.

Guinness world records dangerous creatures records, is a book that is very good at informing you about dangerous creatures and how they prey. This book was written by the Guinness world record company.

This book also tells you to be alert after seeing the animals in the outer world.

This book is very good because I like nature and big dangerous animals prey, it is fascinating. I recommend this book 6-9

Auckland Botanical Gardens

Auckland botanic gardens

I remember when we went to the Auckland botanical gardens on 20th February. First we hopped on the bus to the botanic gardens, it was a long ride. When we arrived we moved to the courtyard and had some morning tea. After that we met Caroline and went into the classroom to learn about native, exotic and endemic plants.

A little later we went into the children's garden, sat down and Caroline told us a story about a tu’i. Caroline picked Gina (my classmate) to be the tu’i. In the bag that Caroline brought there were circular plastic mats. We sat on the mats and had our magic moments, my magic moment was winning a soccer tournament with my good friends. Then Caroline gave us cards to go and identify plants. A few minutes later we went to gather kowhai seeds, then we put them in envelopes. Then we took a long walk to the garden center to plant and we had a choice to plant harakeke seeds that we picked to cut and plant flax and also prick. Then it was lunch time, after we had lunch we went bush walking. Then we got tired again and went back to school.
